Austria in a Nutshell
Austria is certainly one of the more quaint holiday destinations on our European list, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a lot to offer. On the contrary, its incredible landscapes are enough to inspire and there’s plenty of history here to learn from – even beyond Vienna. Stunning churches are scattered all throughout Austria and views of the Eastern Alps, canoe rides down the Danube River and hikes through the Bohemian Forest are just a few of the many attractions that draw holidaymakers to the diverse and picturesque lands of this extraordinary location.
The Singing Hills of Austria
Mighty and breathtaking Habsburg architecture, spectacularly scenic views of the Alpine mountain ranges, seemingly endless, vivid green landscapes and quaint, iconically built Scandinavian homes – Austria has it all.
The destination may play into its age-old stereotype, but my word, does this country hold an abundance of beauty and a fantastically rich history. Numerous museums lay scattered throughout Austria (much to the delight of avid history enthusiasts), while in many of the bigger cities one can find some of the most incredible, contemporary architecture around and the hip, forward-thinking bars and restaurants can barely go a day without being chock ‘n block full with patrons from all across the globe.
Austria is home to some of the most instantly recognisable and magnificent landmarks in the world. For instance, the gorgeous Alpine wonderland looming over the homely villages below in all its lime green-topped-with-snow glory is enough to leave you breathless; the bustling and electrifying city of Vienna, where the Mitteleuropa culture tends to become imbedded in all who visit its streets; and nestled between Vienna and Innsbruck, the marvellous Baroque city of Salzburg which is immaculately backdropped by the picturesque lakes and mountains of Salzkammergut.
It is a country that was born to be explored – by hikers, backpackers, honeymooners, families, history buffs and so many more. There is something for everyone in this magical destination, making it one of the top go-to places in many travellers’ bucket-list.
