Riding the bullet train (also known as Shinkansen) is easily the most convenient way to travel between cities in Japan.
KUMANO – 熊野
a travel video by Mathieu Le Lay
Made possible thanks to the great help of Alena Eckelmann, Kosho Tateishi, Fukami Uzawa, Mark Patrick McGuire, Jean-Marc Abela, Jean Burgert. Thank you Alena for recommending me some of the greatest spots to explore in Kumano, especially some amazing trails of the Kumano Kodō. Thank you Kosho for welcoming me at Sangakurin and for sharing your way of living during my stay.
I also want to send a very special thanks to the talented composer Oliver Dowie who created the original soundtrack by wonderfully mixing together some traditional prayers, chantings and instruments recorded on site like the Horagai, a large conch shell used by Yamabushi for spiritual meanings.
I hope to be back in Kumano next year to shoot a feature length film on the same topic.

Japan in a Nutshell
There is no denying that the different layers – and islands – of Japan are quite literally awe-inspiring. Be it experiencing the cherry-blossom in Okinawa, a hike through the vibrant Okutama natural park, temple-hunting in Kyoto, admiring the symmetric Mount Fuji or joining in on the rush of Tokyo and shopping in eclectic Harajuku – Japan offers something to fulfil everyone’s expectations. And what’s more, the Japanese are known for their humble natures that make travellers feel welcomed and wanting to board on a bullet train to explore all that Japan has to offer.

Insights from Tokyo...
Tokyo would probably be the foreign city if I had to eat one city’s food for the rest of my life, every day. It would have to be Tokyo, and I think the majority of chefs you ask that question would answer the same way.
